The University of California began 150 years ago on a simple, but revolutionary idea: That college should be available to everyone. That bold spirit has guided UC as it has grown from its seed at Berkeley to 10 campuses, five medical centers, and three national labs. UC’s history is packed with major discoveries, visionary people, and other milestones that cross campus boundaries and disciplines and have touched generations of humankind around the world.

That rich history is captured in a new timeline created in honor of UC’s 150th birthday. Encompassing the accomplishments of all 10 campuses, it shows just how far we have come since March 23, 1868.
